The theme at Gartner IAM Summit this year was “Transform Operations to Opportunities”, and it led to five tracks: Foundational Strategies, Moving Your IAM Program Forward, Building IAM for the Future, Tech Insights for Agile IAM, and Beyond the Checkbox: Security.
David Anthony Mahdi (Director of Research at Gartner), Mark Diodati (Research VP, Gartner), and Earl Perkins (Research VP, Gartner) kicked off the summit with a keynote presentation on how IAM is rapidly becoming a key differentiator in the enablement of an innovative digital service. In their talk, “Shift Into the Future With IAM,” the three discussed how a new generation of IAM leaders will emerge that understands and realizes these benefits. They also discussed how the new IAM generation will be affected by technology evolution in the years ahead, as the pace of change accelerates.
“A tipping point could be reached, where people realize ‘that data belongs to me’.”
Tuesday we saw heavy booth traffic in the main hall. Axiomatics’ booth was donned in our signature green. Many stopped by to chat about dynamic authorization (“Wait – so a role is also an attribute? Tell me more.”), to grab one of our Axiomatics astronaut stress relievers, webcam covers, coffee tumblers and for the chance to win an Amazon Echo Dot (Did you follow us on LinkedIn and enter to win?).
(The Axiomatics astronauts stress relievers, modeled after the astronauts from our “How Does ABAC Work?” video.)
On the content side, some highlights included sessions on Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, cloud, and microservices, among other highly discussed trends in the IAM community. Gartner analysts Homan Farahmand and Lori Robinson said it is imperative that IAM leaders look to artificial intelligence and other emerging automation tools in order to manage the rapidly growing complexity and scale of modern IT deployments. Homan also spoke about how blockchain is beginning to mature to a point where we need to think about where it fits into an IAM strategy as there are significant potential benefits in a blockchain-based identity trust fabric.
By day’s end, we’d noticed just how much this Gartner event continues to grow, with an estimate of over 1700 from the IAM community in attendance this year.
Wednesday night we hosted a VIP reception at the HYDE Bellagio with our friends from Saviynt and our partners at Radiant Logic. We met with industry experts, partners and peers to download the day’s events and network over cocktails.
The venue was super sleek and featured floor-to-ceiling windows and an expansive terrace that showcased Las Vegas’ most celebrated landmark – the Bellagio Fountains. Was it just us or did those fountains go off every five minutes just for our group? What a beautiful view!
Thanks to all who stopped by our booth and the event. We look forward to the next Gartner IAM Summit taking place in London next spring.
