Enforcing Segregation of Duties (SoD)

"A real problem growing out of proportion with poorly designed access controls." In this new Axiomatics White Paper we show why real-time SoD enforcement by necessity requires context-aware access controls. Comparing Role Based Access Control (RBAC) and Attribute Based Access Control (ABAC), this paper discusses how the capabilities of access controls impact risk mitigation. The White Paper itself can be downloaded from the Axiomatics resoures section, Enforcing Segregation of Duties (SoD).

Axiomatics granted research funding

Vinnova, a Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems, today announced its support for a next generation research initiative lead by Axiomatics focusing on future requirements and solutions for Attribute Governance in Access Control. We currently see a rapidly growing market and a broader adoption of Attribute Based Access Control (ABAC) models. It reflects a shift away from a static Role Based Access Control paradigm towards new, loosely coupled and adaptive authorization technologies based on the XACML specification. However, while the concept of roles is well established in the industry and the implications of sound role governance are fairly well understood, the broader concept of Attribute Governance needs to be better defined. This project is scheduled to run over the next 12 months and will assist in the creation of new best practice frameworks and tools to derive privilege giving attributes from business critical processes as well as to secure governance in attribute maintenance.

Intel and Axiomatics release joint white paper

Intel and Axiomatics have published a white paper outlining a joint conceptual solution combining the Intel SOA Expressway appliance and Axiomatics Policy Server. Together these products enable SOA governance and Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC) to be retrofitted to already deployed services. Deployment of new services will thereafter also become more cost-efficient. Intel SOA Expressway is a soft-appliance deployed to address common XML and SOA problem areas such as acceleration, security, service mediation and service governance. Axiomatics Policy Server implements the complete XACML 2.0 and 3.0 specifications consistently which means it not only handles XACML request/response but also maintains its policy store according to the XACML specification. In the joint solution, the Intel SOA Expressway is used as a versatile XACML Policy Enforcement Point in relation to Axiomatics Policy Server. This approach offers a wide range of advantages which are being discussed in more detail in the Intel-Axiomatics white paper. The white paper can be downloaded from the resources section of the Axiomatics web site (http://www.axiomatics.com/resources.html) or from the dedicated Intel SOA Expressway web site, www.comparedatapower.com.
